About the Painting
At the heart of Muckross Abbey, a yew tree has been growing for nearly four hundred years, rising from the centre of the cloister like a quiet guardian of time. I visited in winter, when the site was completely empty; no footsteps, no voices, only a small robin hopping nearby, hopeful for crumbs. In that stillness, the abbey felt suspended between past and present. The air carried something mystical, charged with wonder and awe, as if the space itself was breathing history. This painting is an attempt to hold onto that sensation of being momentarily transported, alone yet deeply connected.
